Mission
1.Promote Research on Social Common Capital and the Future
Inheriting the philosophy of "social common capital" advocated by the internationally acclaimed economist Hirofumi Uzawa, we will collaborate with various social sectors beyond the boundaries of academic disciplines and conduct interdisciplinary research on the nature and future of social common capital, focusing on fields such as education, healthcare, and the environment.
2.Social Dissemination of Information about Expanding Social Common Capital
We will rethink what we want from companies and how we should be in academia. Why do we need social common capital now, and how do we extend the relationship between social common capital and the future while thinking ‘beyond capitalism’?
Vision
We will not limit the reach of our research to just within academia, but will actively create proposals and concepts for the realization of a prosperous society of the future. At the same time, we will develop concrete social implementations based on our research results and promote the creation of social impact through these efforts.

Professor
He specializes in public policy and philosophy of science. He advocates a "steady-state society”, i.e., a “sustainable welfare society" in which the environment, welfare, and economy are in harmony. He is the author of many books, including “Post Capitalism,” “Designing a Society in Population Decline,” and “The Human History of Nothingness and Consciousness: Where Are We Going?”

Yukiko Uchida
Professor
She specializes in cultural and social psychology and is particularly interested in international comparative studies of well-being, emotions, and interpersonal relationships. She has published numerous articles in international journals and is the author of “Thinking About the Future of Happiness: A Cultural Psychological Perspective (Shinyosha).

Masatoshi Funabashi
Masatoshi Funabashi
Program-Specific Professor
He researches and implements "Augmented Ecosystems" as a civilization platform that promotes biodiversity through essential human activities and contributes to the sustainability of social-ecological systems. He works globally to realize "natural-social common capital" which includes the implementation of social common capital and the reproduction of natural resources. Ph.D. in physics and licensed veterinarian.

Kenta Kawamura
Kenta Kawamura
Program-Specific Associate Professor
After graduating from the Graduate School of Engineering at Kyoto University, he worked for a consulting firm, where he focused on organizational and human resource development projects. Following this, he engaged in corporate planning, incubation, and industry-academia collaboration at a business company, and he is now in charge of various outreach activities under the banner of “The Knowledge of Kyoto University” at Kyoto University Original Co., Ltd. In July 2022, he was concurrently appointed as a program-specific associate professor at the Kyoto University Institute for the Future of Human Society.

Researcher (part-time)
He specializes in life science. After graduating from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences at The University of Tokyo, he worked as postdoc at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). Following this, he engaged in spreading and researching “Augmented Ecosystems” for its social implementation at Synecoculture Association. Especially, he is researching technologies of evaluating the states of the Augmented Ecosystems.
Tatsuya Kawaoka
Tatsuya Kawaoka
Researcher (part-time)
He engages in research and social implementation of augmented ecosystems where ecosystems are restored by human activities. He specializes in life sciences and Molecular biology. He conducts research on changes in the means of food production and the decline of ecosystem functions associated with economic development and the increase in immune-related diseases. He is working on the development of social systems and cultural formation that lead to fundamental solutions to long-term social problems.
Fumitaka Watanabe
Fumitaka Watanabe
Researcher (part-time)
An active pracademic interested in fundraising for nonprofits, including universities, as social common capital. He focuses on philanthropic gift fundraising underpinned by the Theory of Constraints (TOC) and marketing science. He obtained his Ph. D. in Management Science from the Graduate School of Management, Kyoto University. He also serves as a Project-specific lecturer at Shinshu University in Nagano Prefecture.

Specializes in artistic and cultural expression activities for people with disabilities.As an art director, she uses her practical experience in arts management to support the artistic expression activities of people with disabilities.She has worked to highly value the abilities of artists and to improve their social image.Researching the evaluation of art from the perspective of social common capital and the well-being of artists with disabilities.
